Rebuilding the 80th Street Cedar Rapids Bridge in Iowa proved to be a tricky task, especially where concrete placing was concerned. To solve this issue the American Pumping Inc, headquartered in Iowa, dispatched the five-section Putzmeister 52Z-meter to the job site.

There were two critical pours on this project. The first was for the center pier which at 98ft long, 24ft high and 4ft wide required 352 cubic yards of concrete to be poured continuously. The second was the 839 cubic yard pour for the deck which was 430ft long and 75ft wide. The pumper had been directed to maintain an output of 100 cubic yards an hour on account of strict DOT guidelines associated with the concrete mix design. The Putzmeister 52Z accomplished them both.

“There was just no other way to set up and make this project work if it wasn’t for the reach and five-section boom of the 52Z. It was the only boom pump that had enough reach and could still set up in this spot,” said Dylan Schindler, the pumpers director of operations/ sales.

The Putzmeister 52Z was definitely the perfect choice for the job.
