Participation in the IHK Career Fair at Dietrich Bonhoeffer Gymnasium

On 22 May 2025, Anika Kailer, Merjem Mustedanagic and Rümeysa Celikten attended the IHK Career Fair at Dietrich Bonhoeffer Gymnasium (dbg) in Sielmingen.

At the career fair, companies present a profession to students using a typical task from the respective sector as an example, and the young people can interactively participate themselves. There were 15 different stations on site. The students had a total of 60 minutes to explore a wide variety of professions in a practical way. As a rule, the students stayed at each station for about 10 minutes and were thus able to learn about a total of six professions.

There were three one-hour sessions in total, and over 300 students from three secondary schools took part; in addition to the dbg Sielmingen, the ESG Filderstadt and the PMHG Echterdingen were also represented. The event took place in the dbg sports hall.

This year, we presented the apprenticeship programme for industrial clerks (m/f/d). As this training programme covers a very diverse and broad range of topics, it was initially a challenge for us to find a task that would represent industrial clerks well in a short space of time and at the same time spark the interest of the students. However, we were able to  successfully develop tasks that encompass the activities of an industrial clerk and require commercial thinking.

The students were given case studies from two different departments. We decided on the human resources department and the purchasing department. They then had to come up with possible solutions to the respective problems and present them to the whole group. This tested the students' ability to think economically and in a goal-oriented manner. Prizes such as a Putzmeister bottle were awarded for the most effective solutions.

The career fair was a complete success and was thoroughly enjoyed by both the students and our team. One student even received a golden ticket for her confident performance, which will give her an advantage when applying for a job at Putzmeister in the future. We look forward to more career fairs in the future.
