Effective Machinery and Good Training Were the Keys to Delivering This Tall Order

It goes without saying that working with a technology, engineering construction and manufacturing conglomerate, meant living up to the highest expectations when it came to concrete work. The brief this time was a chimney shell. The reason: a tall chimney is essential to discharge emissions as high as possible so that dispersion takes place in a very large area and reduces the concentration of dust or emission at the ground level, thereby reducing the harmful effects for humans and vegetation.

The Challenge

Completing a chimney shell for the customer without the pipelines choking up. Besides this, the construction of a tall chimney is complicated as the work has to be done at a great height and must continuously move upward. This makes the concreting tricky as the diameter of the shell changes continuously and the thickness of the shell also varies at various points.

The safety requirements for a power plant are also tricky to deliver with precision.

The Soultion

To achieve the desired results, the ever reliable  Putzmeister BSF 36-4 M; BSA 1407 D and BSA 1408 HD were used.  The total pumping quantity was immense: 14.000 m3 over a period of 166 days. But along with the machines, it was important for the operators to be up to the task as well. To that effect, training programs were held by Putzmeister Indian technicalities, functionality and maintenance for those involved in operations.  Sure enough, the combination of effective machinery and training resulted in the smooth completion of the chimney shell.

Concrete Takeaways

  • The chimney shell was completed in 166 days.

  • Zero choking of pipelines was achieved by smarter placement of delivery lines, periodic maintenance and heavy duty delivery pipes.
