The EKOKEM group is the leading Finnish full service provider in the field of waste management. More than 100.000 tons of hazardous waste is incinerated in two lines each year.

In Finland, EKOKEM operates a broad range of different piston pump types for different applications. For pumping the oily viscous sludges from the day tank to the incineration lines, two Putzmeister KOS piston pumps are used.

The first KOS 1020 double piston pump, powered by a HA 15 E hydraulic power pack, started operation in 1990. The piston pump and the power pack were designed in EXversion for application in hazardous areas.

In 2008 two existing piston pumps from other suppliers were replaced by a new KOS 1020 with a HA 15 E, again in EXdesign and with ATEX-certificates. The decision for Putzmeister was made due to significant lower wear and less required spare parts compared to the competitors products at equal operating conditions.

The investment costs for the new pumping unit will pay off after only two years.

The two KOS 1020 piston pumps are conveying approx. 1.5 t/h of oily liquid, hazardous waste containing a lot of abrasive particles like steel pieces etc.

The robust design of the Putzmeister S transfer tube pumps has been saving a lot of money due to a highly reliable performance over almost 20 years now.
