Cooperation for sustainable mobility in the construction industry

Dec 8, 23

The construction site of the future should be low-emission, low-noise and sustainable. This is the view of construction machinery manufacturer Putzmeister - the world's leading concrete specialist - and Netze BW's Services division. The two companies from Baden-Württemberg are therefore joining forces in the field of electromobility.

Based on the SANY eTrucks, Putzmeister is offering construction companies a fully electric truck mixer as well as an emission-free concrete pump under the brand name iONTRON. Putzmeister is part of the SANY Group, a global and publicly listed company, and uses the chassis of the Group's purely battery-powered truck models for its truck mixers. While the truck mixer is powered by a 350 kWh battery, the concrete pump - similar to the crane - runs directly from the power supply on the construction site. This provides construction companies with machines for low-emission work on construction sites, thus reducing air and noise emissions on site.

When it comes to ensuring that work runs smoothly on the construction site, it is of the utmost importance that electric vehicles are charged sufficiently. Considerably different infrastructure is required in this situation than would be needed for refuelling petrol- or diesel-powered vehicles.

Netze BW's Services division offers a complete solution for a company's own charging infrastructure as part of the cooperation: From consulting, design, planning and construction to operational management. The company has many years of expertise and is involved, for example, in the construction of fast-charging locations in the EnBW HyperNetz, Germany's largest fast-charging network, on behalf of EnBW.
For Kevin Eichele, who is responsible for the market launch of the electric mixer at Putzmeister, the electrification of the construction industry is a must. "With our iONTRON product range and the eTrucks from SANY, we can make an active contribution to greater climate protection and promote a reduction in CO2 emissions in the construction process. eTrucks are ideal for use on construction sites, especially in the city or on the outskirts, as they are quiet and emission-free."

Logistics and the movement of goods are important aspects of the construction industry. It is crucial that materials and equipment arrive at construction sites on time and can be moved smoothly. The right charging infrastructure is key to keeping the low-emission and electric vehicles ready for use depending on the requirements profile. "We take climate protection seriously and take responsibility. That's why we support companies in the construction industry in their transformation to sustainable mobility," says Achim Lotter, who is responsible for the development and sale of eTruck charging infrastructure solutions at Netze BW's Services division.

With the upcoming customer projects, both companies want to provide concrete examples of how a transformation with sustainable electrification can work successfully in the construction industry.

Construction industry in transition - focus on climate protection

The construction industry is growing worldwide and has a wide range of effects on the climate and environment. More and more new roads and buildings are being built, especially in cities. The effects of global climate change are prompting the construction industry to adopt a climate-neutral approach and take responsibility. The Global Cement and Concrete Association is planning to reduce its own CO2 emissions by a quarter by 2030 compared to 2020. The construction industry has many technical and innovative solutions to realise the political and social goals. The focus here is primarily on resource-saving construction materials and reducing emissions from construction vehicles. The cooperation between Putzmeister and Netze BW's Services division supports construction companies in Germany on their way to sustainable mobility.
